Yellow Daisy
« on: June 26, 2009, 11:14:59 PM »
I got this daisy at a market when I was in Canada earlier this month.  The foliage is quite glossy and the daisies are not prolific.  They are generated from the crown of the leaf florettes on stems about 4 inches long.  The base of the plant is quite woody and therefore makes a sturdy plant.  Anyone know what it is please?

Maybe Euryops pectinata.

If so, we grow it outside only in the summer.

Thanks Diane, I'm sure you are correct.  I got it in Abbotsford.  It looked like it was tender, but it will be nice this summer.  Foliage is wonderful.  It's in my daughter's garden, but good to know its tender then they wont worry about it dying over the winter.

They are also sold in tree-form here - about head height.

They flower a very long time.

They're from South Africa and do well in California gardens.

Chris,

It's only weakness is a dislike of being wet over winter. Give it a dry spot and it will flower all year round. A great old shrub.

right, Paddy, we'll give it a go.  Its planted in a raised bed beside the house and the soil is very free draining, so you never know, it might just make it, though I understand there was some pretty severe winter weather over there last year.  Most years they get only a bit of snow, but they got loads last winter.
