Rainbow Farm Snowdrops     Michael and Anne Broadhurst
                                                             Sales List for 2021
New or recent Rainbow Farm introductions:

Brief descriptions of new or recent Rainbow Farm introductions (unless stated otherwise new cultivars were raised at Rainbow Farm). The 2021 introductions  have very limited quantities.

New for 2021:

‘Rainbow Balthazar’  A vigorous hybrid seedling selected for its early flowering which is usually around the Christmas period. The second of our ‘Three King’ series to be released. This snowdrop flowers a little later than ‘Melchior and is shorter but with larger flowers with broad, rounded, outer segments. The inner mark is a slightly rounded V, sometimes with slight staining towards the base. An early snowdrop of high quality.  £75

‘Rainbow Alcyone’  Named for a goddess of the winter solstice. This G. elwesii  usually flowers during December and has a strong green crescent shaped mark on the outer segments. The inner mark is a dark green flattened U. The plant is vigorous and bulks-up well.  £80

‘Rainbow Golden Girl’  A strong growing hybrid with a green ovary and a golden yellow, narrowly pointed V shaped inner mark. Distinguished from other similar snowdrops by the subtle diffusion of yellow colouration from the apical mark towards the base, forming pale yellow upper arms of an X-shape. In some years may show ‘colour change’ characteristics.  £110

‘Rainbow Gold Top’  One the last to flower of our new yellow marked snowdrop. A small but pretty snowdrop with a bright yellow mark contrasting with stiffly splayed blue-green leaves. The ovary is yellowish green and the pedicel yellow. There is a small yellow patch where the pedicel joins the ovary. Often still in flower well into March.   £100

‘Richard Todd’ (AY 15) A new double snowdrop from Anglesey Abbey named for the recently retired head gardener Richard Todd. A very regular arrangement of the inner segments, similar to that seen for ‘Ailwyn’ but with a tendency to produce a projection of three long clasping unmarked inner segments at the centre  of  the flower. Sometimes has green markings at the apex of the outer segments.   £50

‘Anglesey Cloudgazer’ (AY 5)  Another recent find from Anglesey Abbey. This new double snowdrop has been named by us to honour whimsical wooden structure to be found at Anglesey Abbey designed by Richard Todd. This allows visitors to lie-back supported while they observe the sky and passing clouds. The flowers, particularly in the immature phase, are held at an angle pointing skywards. The arrangement of the inner segments is very regular and the outer segments have small green marks at the apex.  £50

‘Lincoln Green’  A new green-tipped G. woronowii’ found by a friend in a garden centre in Lincolnshire. Similar to ‘Cider with Rosie’ but with darker green markings. Vigorous and reliable.  £75

2020 Introductions:

‘Melanie’s Bloomers’. A vigorous supervolute seedling from ‘Melanie Broughton’ with enormous flowers (up to 50mm) held on an arching scape. The broad, tapering outer segments turn out slightly at the apex. The inner segment mark comprises a mid-green inverted V joined to a shield shaped mark that cuts off horizontally as in the parent.   £65

‘Rainbow Melchior’.  A vigorous hybrid seedling selected for its early flowering which is usually around the Christmas period. The nicely rounded flowers have an inner segment mark that comprises an inverted V with fainter arms to form a vague X. A tall snowdrop, up to 30cm.
Strong bulbs produce 2 flower scapes.  £65

‘Rainbow’s End’. A strong growing hybrid with a green ovary and a golden yellow inner segment V-shaped mark. The mark may start pale green and turn yellow as the flower matures so perhaps a member of the changeling group of snowdrops. Flowering mid-season.  £80

‘Rainbow Alchemist’. A strong growing hybrid flowering mid – late season. The large rounded flowers have a distinct ‘hood’ at the apex and are held on a long arching pedicel. The distinct inner segment mark comprises an acute dark green inverted V joined to a roughly crescent- shaped mark. Mature bulbs produce 2 scapes.   £45

2019 Introductions:

‘Rainbow Snowgoose’  A very beautiful hybrid snowdrop flowering at the end of the Christmas period or early January. The outer segments are broad, rounded, incurved and of thick substance. The light texture is reminiscent of goose down. The inner segment mark is a broad, slightly curved-up inverted V. Mature bulbs produce 2 scapes.  £65

‘Rainbow Yo-Yo’.  A very vigorous and beautiful snowdrop flowering at the end of January. The large rounded flowers are of thick substance and are held on a long arching pedicel.
The inner segment mark is a inverted V that stains slightly towards the base.
This is an excellent garden plant that soon makes an impressive display.  £60

‘Rainbow Richard II’.  A vigorous elwesii hybrid double from our garden. Relatively tall and with a long ovary. Flowering mid-season.  £35

‘Tinker’s House Double’  A fairly tall elwesii hybrid double with distinctly hooded outer segments that rise above the horizontal on warm days. Often has 3 white fang-like segments at the centre of the flower. Found in the garden of a derelict house at the edge of Tinker’s Marsh, Suffolk. Flowering mid-season.   £35
