It's May 8th today and we still have some snowdrop blooms in our garden. Wonderful 'E.A Bowles' still has many white flowers though some have faded. It is certainly the longest blooming snowdrop for us.
A week ago on May 1st, it was completely fresh and so was 'Cicely Hall'. Today Cicely's flowers have withered.

I think it is because of the cold weather we have had for the past weeks that have kept the blooms fresh for so long.
It has been a good and long snowdrop season!

It has been a fine snowdrop season - but I don't think we have too much success here with good seedpods.

Gail, to be honest, I haven't tried to grow autumn-flowering snowdrops. I have always thought that they are not hardy enough and the leaves can't survive long winter in the snow. But I guess I should give it a try.

Maggi - I see a great difference in seed pod set between locations. In my garden, none survived the drought we had for two months, while 6 miles to the east a naturalised population (mongrel nivalis & elwesii sensu latu) varies from good to outstanding, despite the same weather and elevation.

I have been working near Luton and the garden is full of snowdrops, they are all carrying seed pods of 20mm size. She has no knowledge of name.

I have found numerous seed pods on one patch of elwesii under a black walnut tree. I have been collecting these and the seeds they contained, and I wonder how long I can keep them sitting in a small plastic cup on a table in my potting room, without them losing viability. I have a spot in mind to plant them, but it has grass covering it at the moment.

I have semi-naturalized some Colchicum and some Crocus in my lawn, and I think Galanthus would look very nice right in between these two species. My Galanthus nivalis never have seemed to make any seed pods, so this is my only chance to get a Galanthus in there too.

jshields - mix seeds in a litlle damp vermiculite or perlite and put in a plastic bag in the refrigerator and they will stay happy for months.

Thanks, Anthony! This is my first try ever at doing anything with Galanthus from seed. We'll see in a few years if this works.

Found this in local park, much larger pod than anything else I have seen. Grew from seed I planted gathered from other municipal land. Paper is 2mm squared, metal scale shows an inch.
