Hello All,

I'm new to SGRC, but not new to gardening. I came across your site looking for info on propagating Epimediums. I did find a long thread about Epi's, but not sure that's the right place to post my question, so starting here to get some guidance. My question is, can Epi's be grown from cuttings? Will they root? I've serached the web and found nothing so I think the answer is no and division or seed is the way to make more.

My sources of wisdom suggest that you are thinking correctly - division or seed.

I would suggest layering, but my recollection is that I have accidentally buried stems in the past - muching a bed and suchlike, and I do not recall any of them actually rooting.

Layering is an interesting thought as it solves the issue of it becoming dried out before it can make roots. Worth a try. Thanks.

I checked with Mark McDonough, who I regard as the Epimedium guru - he assures me that division or seed are the only options.  Thanks Mark!

I have run across Mark McDonough's name before. I have recently found he has many posts on Epimediums at https://garden.org. Thank you for reaching out to him.
