RHS honour an SRGC Member : Dr John Page
(1/1)
Maggi Young:
Another SRGC member has received this prestigious RHS award this year.
The RHS Bulb Committee has recently contacted Dr. John Page to tell him that he has been chosen to receive the 2024 Sir Daniel Hall Award in recognition of his continued promotion of bulbs and his work to further knowledge and the global conversation about growing and conserving them.
He has received notification and the RHS Certificate from the Plant Committee Manager, Jill Otway.
As you may imagine, John has been delighted with this news.
Thanks to Kate Page for getting in touch with this wonderful news. Such a well deserved award.
John is a former University Lecturer, specialist in the History of Rock and Alpine Gardening , author of numerous articles on plants, member of the RHS Bulb Committee and the editorial board of the RHS Daffodil, Snowdrop and Tulip Yearbook, widely travelled in mountain ranges from the Rockies to the Tien Shan. He and Kate are much valued members of SRGC. They now live in Solihull.

Maggi Young:
Extraordinary that in spite of repeated attendances at SRGC events, including Discussion Weekends, John and Kate Page have avoided our cameras! Only "back of head " shots seem to survive!!
None the less, many congratulations, John!!
Maggi Young:
Aha! Kindly, Kate has sent me this photo of Dr John Page with the Sir Daniel Hall award - which is a very smart glass bowl. I am also told that the watercolour on the wall behind John is " Tulipa akamasica from the Akamas Peninsula in Cyprus by Betty Thomas. We suspected that it was new when we found it. It was described 4 years later."
Thanks for your photo, Kate!
