My husband didn't get into work today apparently.  On the Otago Daily Times site there is a photo of my street!

About to leave sunny warm Rome for that lot.  Thanks Maggi for making me feel better about it!

Well, today was a real shock to the system. Wind from the Antarctic, rain, hail, sleet. 8oC and dark on Heidi's walk round the Cascade Walkway near Howick at 6.45 a.m., with thunder in the mix. Rain and thunder again at Totara Park, near Manukau City, at 4 p.m. and the temperature had dropped to 6oC. Both places 10 minutes by car in opposite directions from the house, and the morning walk due to kids at hockey practice, and the evening due to Lucy at violin lesson. This evening I had to go into the garage and bring out the mains gas heater to bring the lounge up from 14C to 19C - the thermostat setting on the heater. Oh for central heating and double glazing. :(

We have had a snowfall in Aberdeen as late as June 12th, Diane - but if we got as much as Dunedin just had I'd be packing my bags and heading to the Czech Republic as fast as possible!

And down here in the Midlands, the latest date of serious snow that I remember was 2nd June 1975 - the ground was completely white, we must have had a couple of inches.

Your weather down there seems very familiar. Wouldn't raise an eyebrow if we got snow in November but if we got it now I would move ;)
Maggi, have you sent skis to your sister?

Jandals are perfect in snow - you do not get snow in your shoes! And in rain too: you do not need to take them off to pour out the water!

Maggi - Just dropped an email to Toolie telling him that yesterday was my first day this year that I hadn't worn jandals . However , I did leave them plugged in to the jandal warmers overnight so nice and toastie today

Hoy - Jandals are no good for me in the snow as they flick snow up my back and I get a cold back

Jandals, too bad to get a cold back (even worse than a cold shoulder) but have you tried to wear a sweater?

Don't buy any Uggs. You need to get to Oz or NZ to buy proper ones.
