Pelargonium species question
« on: August 29, 2007, 07:35:51 AM »
On a recent trip to the Little Karoo I chanced apon this interesting Pelargonium species. It has bright green thickened stems with very few small leaves (...if any - I can't remember!). Can anyone (Mark?) put a name to it?

Thanks a lot.

A very nice form of P. tetragonum. The stems have three or four sides

This is what mine looked like

Thanks for the name Mark, and so quick!

Unfortunately, at the time I was with a large contingent of international visitors and had to be on my best behavior, so I cutting did not make its way back home with me  :'(

As with bedding geraniums Pelargoniums, I hate the word, the species can root easily.

If you ever hear of a cheap source for species seeds keep me in mind. Most SA seed companies charge up to £10 for a few seeds

You mention SA seed companies in plural.  The only one I was aware of was Silverhills Mark.  If you know of more, please let me know.  I'm desperate for diascia species seed myself and Rod and Rachel have had a few species but not that many.  My species have been over propagated to keep them going.  Need new material, and if I can get some I'll do a little breeding with the existing ones too to strengthen the collection some.
