Trough Day at Explorers' Garden, Pitlochry 23/08/08

I am told that there are still places available  for the TROUGH DAY to be held at the Explorers' Garden, Pitlochry, on Saturday 23rd August 2008

This follow-up to the first Trough Day will feature Sandy (what this man doesn't know about planting medal winning troughs isn't worth knowing) Leven   and Ian (fish-box troughs and beyond.... always, alldays,new ways with troughs)Young. 
A new, easy method of making your own "stone" troughs using cement, will be revealed with an    emphasis on imaginative planting.
Tickets are £5 for SRGC members, £10 for non-members

Last time, Cynthia, who had come all the way from Australia.... had a great time... why not go along and see what all the fuss is about?  Remember, SRGC fishbox troughs,specially made and expertly planted, have won OODLES of Gold Medals and Best in Show awards at Strathclyde and Ingliston.... not to mention Ayr and other Flower shows...... see the SRGC trough pioneers in action at Pitlochry.

Tickets for that evening's Pitlochry Festival Theatre production of "She stoops to conquer" are available at special prices to Trough Day participants, if you need a further reason to book!

The multi-talented Sandy Leven is also responsible for the SRGC sponsored Exhibition, dedicated to 75 Years of the SRGC which is showing in the David Douglas Pavilion of the Explorers' Garden until the end of October.

There is the chance to catch up with Peter Korn's new Crevice and Scree Garden, too.

Well...fine-art quality would be nice, but I'd settle for nice clear shots showing what people are doing--ideas, plant selection, trough-scaping, etc.

You'll certainly not be the only one attending (we hate to keep putting everything on YOUR broad shoulders). Pictures from a number of sources would be great.

Who else is planning to attend??? Come on you guys!

Some troughs and two might-be troughs seen in Switzerland recently. Certainly Sandy and Ian would have plenty to work on here.

that's a good selection, paddy.  Are you sure that the second one is of a trough and not Mary testing the temperature of the water before having her bath?

We'll be heading off to Pitlochry tomorrow (Friday) to allow Ian to get preparations in hand for Trough Day and we're making a weekend of it....YIPPEE! Hope I''ll have pix of the Day to show you next week.
In the meantime, there will be a wonderful silence from BD and I from  this evening until later on Monday....may have a chance early tomorrow to check on things, may not.......soooo.... behave yourselves and Fred will help if you get very stuck with your homework!!
