Save Akkar's forests, support Akkar trail's firefighting team!
https://www.facebook.com/donate/178061334230109/?fundraiser_source=external_url The forest fires season this year starts with a lot of concerns about the extermination of Akkar's forests whose area exceeds 21,000 hectares and includes one of the most important habitats of fauna and flora biodiversity in Lebanon, due to the high fire risk, especially with the economic crisis in Lebanon and the inability to provide diesel for heating, one of the most important hotspots of Lebanon is now threaten.
Akkar trail forestfire team was established in 2020, as a result of the fires that destroyed more than 600 hectares of Akkar forests in one season. The team currently includes 10 volunteers, and has taken upon itself the responsibility to respond to forest fires and to quickly intervene through the only truck in the entire Jurd Al-Qayteh area-Akkar, which is equipped for rapid intervention and is able to reach deep into forests in order to deal with fires through the equipments it is provided with. This truck was mainly equipped last year through a fundraising held by Akkar trail's support-community in Lebanon and worldwide.
The area covered by the team is huge, exceeding 80 square kilometers of dense forests and rugged terrain. However, because of the lack of equipped forest fire fighting vehicles at the only civil defense center in the region, the total reliance in dealing with these fires relies on Akkar Trail team, who has proven exceptional efficiency in several fires that would have been considered catastrophic if it has expanded further!
The team is currently suffering from an acute shortage of equipments, especially personal safety protection equipment, moreover, it is difficult to cover the costs of operating and maintaining these firefighting equipments, in addition to the costs of development and improvement in the equipment and completing deficiencies, to remain fully prepared against any fire. All these costs are considered high, taking into consideration the economic crisis in Lebanon.
We are calling all of Akkar trail friends across Lebanon and the world, who trust us last year knowing that all these efforts are to protect the nature in Akkar, to extend a helping hand to us in order to ensure the continuity of the team and the efficiency of its work in protecting the forests of Akkar from the existential dangers that js threatening it.

يأتي موسم الحرائق هذه السنة حاملاً معه الكثير من المخاوف من ابادة غابات عكار التي تزيد مساحتها عن 21 الف هكتار وتضم اهم موائل النباتات والحيوانات في لبنان، بسبب الحرائق، خاصة مع الازمة الاقتصادية في لبنان وعدم القدرة على توفير مادة المازوت للتدفئة، مما قد يهدد واحدة من اهم مناطق التنوع الطبيعي في كل لبنان.
تأسس فريق درب عكار لمكافحة حرائق الغابات عام 2020، بسبب الحرائق التي قضت في موسم واحد على اكثر من 600 هكتار من الغابات، واخذ الفريق الذي يضم حالياً 10 متطوعين، على عاتقه التصدي لحرائق الغابات والتدخل السريع عبر الآلية الوحيدة في كامل منطقة جرد القيطع- عكار، المجهزة للتدخل السريع والقادرة على الوصول الى عمق الغابات والتصدي للنيران عبر العتاد المزودة به، والتي تم تجهيزها بشكل اساسي السنة الماضية من خلال حملة تبرعات من اصدقاء درب عكار في لبنان والعالم.
وتعبر المنطقة التي يغطيها الفريق شاسعة جداً وتبلغ حوالي 80 كلم مربعاً من الغابات الكثيفة والتضاريس الوعرة، وفي ظلّ عدم توفر آلية مجهزة لحرائق الغابات لدى مركز الدفاع المدني الوحيد في المنطقة، ويبقى الاعتماد الكليّ على فريق درب عكار في التعامل مع هذه الحرائق، وقد اثبت كفاءة استثنائية في عدة حرائق، كانت لتعتبر كارثية لو توسعت او امتدت اكثر !
يعاني الفريق حالياً من نقص حاد في التجهيزات وخاصة معدات الحماية السلامة الشخصية، ومن صعوبة في تغطية تكاليف التشغيل والصيانة للالية المجهزة للحرائق، فضلاً عن تكاليف التطوير والتحسين في العدة والعتاد واستكمال النواقص، للبقاء على جهوزية تامة، وهي تكاليف تعتبر عالية في ظل الاوضاع الاقتصادية الصعبة في لبنان.
