News from Hartside Nursery!

Great News from Neil and  Sue Huntley at Hartside :   

"We are delighted to announce the safe arrival of grandchild number 3 to Stuart and Caroline, Imogen a sister for Lucas and Sebastian. All well, we look forward to a cuddle when we are allowed to visit!"

Terrific news which we  are    delighted  to hear  - much love to you all. Seems  Lucas  & Sebastian are  suitably  impressed with their  little sister!  Well done , Caroline!!

 (You can still visit  Hartside,  covid rules permitting open tue, wed and Thurs 11.30am - 4.30pm - and  they do mail order, thank goodness!)

I simply can't get over how Neil and Sue's oldest grandson is the spitting image of his Dad at that age. I remember him at Shows with Neil when he was about 9 or 10.

 " It was -10ºC this morning, a lovely cold clear day today - lots of plants showing potential and eager for new homes in the frames even though they are frozen solid at present! A "New" pdf of the catalogue is now on the web site, and "New" things have been added to the web shop."

"We plan to welcome visitors back to the Nursery Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting after 12th April. A wide range of our plants are available by Mail Order - please check our web shop for availability. Plants are now growing and flowering well - including many Primulas"...

 tomorrow, Bank Holiday Monday, then across to the 3-day Plant Fair at Threave Gardens, Castle Douglas for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Come and see us at one of these events. The Nursery is open Tues. Wed. & Thurs."

"We intend to be open by appointment as soon as we have the sales benches fully stocked. Please phone or email to make an appointment. Lots of interesting plants still available by Mail Order or for Click and Collect."

They look like beautiful, well grown plants.  It is somewhat frustrating to see so many nurseries I would like to patronize; and to know that they will NOT SELL TO ME!

I am in USDA zone 8b where temperatures almost never fall below 15F -9.4C.  Rainfall 50" 110 cm + but none  June-September.  We seldom get snow; but when it comes we get 30" overnight. Soil is sandy loam with a lot of humus. 
Oregon- where Dallas is NNW of Phoenix

Fifty years since Neil and Sue bought the land to start the  Hartside nursery - quite a record these days!
And right now they're at RHS Tatton Park Flower Show, as  "RHS Master Growers"  - here are a few photos of their stand:

Some dates to note for visiting the excellent Hartside Nursery   - to view their "plants with altitude" in situ!

Open Weekends for 2024.
The Nursery will be open in 2024 on the Weekends of;
27th - 28th April
25th - 26th May
29th - 30th June
27th - 28th July
19th - 20th October
Opening Hours on these weekends 11.30am - 4.00pm

I am indeed aware of that page; and the corresponding page by the Ontario chapter of Nargs & HPS.
There are still many nurseries in England & Scotland that I wish I could buy from.
It would be great if the UK Dept of Agriculture [ or its equivalent] could be persuaded to reduce the cost of phytosanitary certificates for small orders.
