Ray Fenwick wrote on Scottish Rock Garden Club's Timeline on Facebook:
"Robert is aged 12 months and is now a member of the Scottish Rock Garden Club . Robert is the youngest child on the children's unit St Oswald's Hospice . The children would like to thank Christine Boulby for her support.

On the children's / young adult unit we use gardening as therapy and it proves very popular with the children .

We look forward to growing rock garden plants and entering local shows. The mums and dads will be very proud to see an entry by the children to local shows."

It is wonderful that Ray is working with SRGC on this - the SRGC is proud to be associated with the St Oswald's Hospice.

The SRGC  connected some time ago with Ray Fenwick ( see above )  now we have had an update from Ray about the hospice – with a link to a little film about their work

Ray writes : Hello Christine and Margaret

Here on the children's ward at St Oswald's Hospice we are making a greenhouse using recycled pop bottles and should be up and running this year . Once the greenhouse is built the children will hopefully be able to grow rock garden plants to not only create a rock garden but hopefully enter the plants in local shows . I would very much like to come to one of your local meetings so as to get some much needed advice on rock gardens . We will be eternally grateful for the plants that your members donated last year .

Anyway here is a short video of us at work on the children's unit. Hope you like it.

Kind regards

Ray Fenwick

St Oswald’s Hospice Children and Young Adults Service is based in Newcastle upon Tyne and provides short breaks and respite for young people aged from 0-25 years with life-shortening conditions, plus support for families.

Families often describe the care at St Oswald’s as a ‘lifeline’, helping them to create special memories with their loved ones.

For more information, visit www.stowaldsuk.org – you might like to help out with donations of plants  if you  live in the area- or perhaps  you might be able to make a donation to their   page : http://www.stoswaldsuk.org/get-involved/support-us/make-a-donation.aspx

What a great cause for the SRGC to be involved with. Will gladly make a financial donation, but I also have some spare plants I'd gladly pass on if I can them there.
