AGS - SHOW - HARLOW 01/03/2008
« on: March 02, 2008, 07:10:20 PM »
I was very happy to be able to visit the Harlow show yesterday and despite the heavy storm and the therefore very long and bumpy crossing  :-\ it was more than worthwile.  The attendance was very good indeed - the plants superb. Of course, it was also an opportunity to fill the trunk with new plants  ;D

Here are some pix from the show - sorry if the quality is not always what it could be - but it was a cotinuous battle with shades - sunrays - flash or no flash - etc.... - I did my best to get the names right too - please let me know if anyone observes a mistake.

I hope you enjoy them ;)

Here they are :
Corydalis macrocentra
Corydalis oppositifolia
Crocus dalmaticus - were they put in the fridge by the exhibitor to hold them back ??
Cyclamen alpinum (first)
Cyclamen coum (second)
Cyclamen pseudibericum
Some stunning Dionysias :
Dionysia - a three pan entry
Dionysia - another three pan entry
Dionysia curviflora
Dionysia Göteborg - my personal favourite

It certainly was, Luc... and we are more than pleased you are sharing with us...... see the "Weather" page, though, to see what the storm did to Hans in Austria! :o.... you will feel sympathy with him, I think!

What great plants... a difficult task for the judges  8)

My God Maggi - it wasn't as bad here and on the Channel as Hans experienced (I hope all turns out well for him !!), but it was quite rough - the crossing from Calais to Dover took us abt 2 1/2 hrs instead of the usual 1.30 hrs but we survived  ;D

Here's some more pix - and I agree Maggi, the judges were not to be envied having to decide on all these gems.

I'm a great admirer of these magicians that can grow Dinoysia's to perfection and to enormous sizes, so here's some more :

Dionysia 'Monika'
Dionysia Microphylla x 'Hannie'
Dionysia viscidula x freitagii
Dionysia xxxx (sorry missed the name)
Dionysia xxxx (sorry missed the name 2)

Draba molissima (why do we see so little of this great genus lately ???)
Eranthis 'Guinea Gold'
Fritillaria gibbosa
Fritillaria pudica - sorry a little blurry  :(

Batch three.
I couldn't let our galantophile friends down... ;D

Galanthus plicatus "Sophie North"
Galanthus 'Trym'
Galanthus viridapice

Some hepaticas :

Hepatica 'Appleblossom'
Hepatica japonica
Hepatica japonica hybrid

Ipheion sellowianum (one of my favourites)
A three pan Narcissus entry (missed the names...)
Narcissus cyclamineus
Narcissus henriquesi (?)

That's it for the moment - I'll try and post some more tomorrow.

Luc

Thanks for sharing your visit to the Harlow show

I wonder how much the pot of Galanthus Trym is worth? 25x 40 GB Pounds each = £1000

Out of interest what is the most expensive plant ever at a show?

Luc, lovely pictures thanks for sharing the Show with us. I thought about you on Saturday morning and was glad I wasn't on a ferry.

By the way, I think the yellow Ipheion (I spelt it right this time Maggi) should be sellowianum. BUT it seems to be a crazy mixed up plant in any case see

Luc

Thank you for capturing some of the special plants at the Show.  I managed only a very brief visit, looked for fellow Forumists, but did not spot any.

I am surprised that you did not take a photograph of another snowdrop that took my breath away.  Like Trym it did not have an armed guard, but could have done.  I am referring to a superb pot of 'Primrose Warburg'  At least as many as Trym, but twice as lovely.
