A Japanese nursery in Febuary
« on: February 13, 2015, 01:16:50 PM »
I visited a nursery on 12th Feb. Perhaps someone interested in seeing the pictures. Adonis and Eranthis season are almost over and Hepatica season has just arrived. The nursery is going to exhibit their own breeding hepaticas to a hepatica show held in Tokyo next weekend.

Great pictures! Gives food for thought on how we might develop the nursery (on a smaller scale ;)). We could do the same sort of thing with snowdrops and alpines with some more glasshouse cover. But we don't have quite the same artistic expression of displaying plants as in Japan - would be exciting to see more specialist nurseries like this in the UK.

Thank you for the comments :)

All pictures above were taken in small shop area. They have larger backyard greenhouses in their site ;)

How wonderful to see rare alpines being grown so beautifully in other countries, but how frustrating that we can't purchase them more easily.  Many thanks for such an interesting post.

hello YT
I am interested in buying or replacement of plant seeds with your collection. Eranthis, Hepatica, Adonis, ranunculus, Calianthemum. Please let us know. Do you sell plants?
If so, please offer plants.

I can add myself to the envious people!!

i am very jalous of such a range of excellent grown plants! I would have dug deep into my savings to go home with a few pots of such superb adonis specimens and eranthis. The eranthis can be tricky to get going from dormant tubers, but purchasing an established clump in a pot is probably the best bet in giving it a good start!!

my mouth (and eyes) are watering!!!

YT - excellent photos - love to see real nurseries - especially when that one looks so tidy and well laid out

what are they growing the plants in? - is it topped with local grit or is it kanuma? - It looks like the colour of kanuma, that's why I am asking

thanks

Thank you for showing these pictures of the nursery Tatsuo.  It is a joy to see so many well grown plants.  The Japanese frits are already in flower and looking so compact.  I assume these are F. japonica varieties.

Tatsuo-San,
What a wonderful nursery! Is this where you get so many of the beautiful bulbs you show us?
I hope you are able to show us some pics of their Show next weekend,
cheers

How about you move to beside the nursery, Ralph? ;D

Tim, as you've already known that not the all Japanese alpine nurseries like as this. I think this nursery is an exception, so I want to visit there 200km away from my home.
