Title: BULB LOG 13 - 28th March 2012
Post by: mark smyth on March 28, 2012, 11:00:37 PM
Ian did your lost label Muscari caome from Janis? Is it Gul?

The wide mouthed Muscari is very nice

My Muscari pycnanthum and latifolius and all failed to appear this year but seedlings of the latter are flowering for the first time. These were self sown around the parent plants.

Thanks Mark,

I still cannot remember how or where I got it but you could be right as it looks like Muscari 'Gul'.

I don't know who said that about me... some sort of garden gnome, I think.

How said gnome managed to lose the label is open to question. Suffice to say he has now written a new one, with Michael's name on it too!

I seem to remember a discussion about "Gul" and that because it is simply the Turkish (?) word for pink that it isn't allowed under the modern rules of nomenclature so it was re-named "Gul Delight" - I think Rannweig W had a hand in this. Diane or someone will probably be able to correct me or back me up ;D
I received seed of this through the AGS Sdx and have raised some pink flowered plants which I take it can only be called "ex Gul Delight"! just as well it wasn't "Stream Delight"!
cheers

Ian's pink muscari looks similar to my pink M. armeniacum posted in Muscari thread 2011 and 2012.

My pink armeniacum plants are seedlings from JJA Seeds and not the selected clone 'Gul Delight'. The second geneartion from my pink are 100% true by hand pollinating (fortunately there are no pollinators of M. armeniacum in wild at my place).
