LesleyI'm hoping that you don't know something I don't Art. I'll take it that David has given up the day job .... and hope he will continue with the seed distribution for a long time yet. (At least until he has finished the book he ought to be writing :D)
The seed distributor has just retired - it will give hime something to do ;D ;) ;D
I'll probably have a senior moment and forget all about it by next September.
I think it's nice idea... I love Asterix........ though the colour printing could bankrupt the group..... not to mention the litigation..... :-\ ...... fascinating how a typo make you think cartoon, isn't it, Anthony ::)
Asterix for asterisk is one of my favourite "family" words... like revelance for relevance, we always used it ....can't think of any more at the minute... though there are masses...... ;)
I doubt that such a high ambition is for me, Hans, I am no aspirant ;)All this talk of aspirin is giving me a headache. :P
I referred them to "Crocus" by Brian Matthew, but they are a curiously thick-headed lot.
Hi Tony do donors have to request the seed list or is automatic for donors?Always best to request, then there is no chance of confusion.
I guess my membership has expired then?Your membership must have expired a while ago - not even on the old list I was sent a year ago when I took over! Welcome back? :)
I am mailing an e-ewsletter to 123 CG members tonight ... could take all night but I'm off to bed, Outlook is in charge. Apologies to anyone who gets it twice but I got a returned message "too many recipients" when I sent it as one mass mail.. It proved quicker to send to everyone (seperately :P) than to pick out the 'losers' from the return message!
I am interested to know if it has arrived OK ... and if not PM me and I'll sort it. The file is big @ 3mb pdf (like the Bulb Log). I tried saving it smaller but lost a lot of quality in the images. Any ideas for doing it better gratefully recieved.
It will all be familiar to Forum readers but hopefully pulling related things together helps. I am hopeful of some input from other CG members (non forum) in future.
I didnt :'( :'(
I haven't got it but maybe I owe money?Midas Touch will cost you dear .. (re)joining the CG is only £5 and that's for many years membership!
Hi Tony, I got my newsletter OK, thanks. Did you get an email from me? I sent it a few days ago right after I had the newsletter. I had a couple of suggestions re seed sources but I don't remember whether I sent it to you or the Crocus Group address. My newsletter came in a batch of other addresses as well and when I sent mine back I think there was one that was rejected as undeliverable but I'm not sure whether the others were OK or whether it meant that none had been delivered.Hi Lesley - yes, thanks I did get the email. Have not yet found time to reply to everyone who wrote :'(
Hi TonyYes, these can be included in the exchange :)
Is it possible to send you some bulbs or bulbills when no seeds for exchange ? Thank you
Dom
When does the exchange run? I am repotting now and have quite a lot of spare C. mathewi plus a few other spare Crocus corms in very small numbers (all desirable I think) that I'd love to contribute.
Alex
Excellent News!
John Grimshaw (UK) and Matt Murray (AUS) have offered to become joint Secretary/Newsletter Editors, doing half a year each to reflect the different seasons N & S of the Equator.
Wim Boens (Belgium) will be the Seed Exchange Manager.
I will continue to deal with membership enquiries.
So we have a new Committee and the promise of new life for the Crocus Group :)
A Newsletter will be emailed to members this week detailing the changes and the planned 2014 Seed Exchange.
Hello.
This year I sended the second time a letter. Last year they never arrived and this year I sended something per registered mail (2 months ago).
The same problem.
This is bad- I collected them in Austria
and my garden... :-(
Greetings - Daniel
Crocus Group - a full Newsletter Archive of all Crocus Group Bulletins - introduced by a brief 'history' of the group from Brian Mathew - is now online HERE (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=12387.0):) Thank You Team!
Love the Chimay glass. I have four just like it, a gift from the landlady of a local pub!
BUT - was there a Crocus seed list? I didn't get one. Maybe I owe money?
Looking forward to see the result of the germination and the first flowers in a few years :-d
PS Maggi not sure if this posting should be in this thread ........
Hello Ruben
Germination hasn't taken long --18 packets of different Crocus from this years exchange were sown at varying depths in the first week of Oct and germination at various stages is occurring at the moment in 16 pots....
A small sample is shown .
C. tournefortii cotyledon above the surface.
C. cartwrightianus cotyledon growths yet to reach the surface.
C. adenensis with what looks like root radicles emerging.
Cheers Dave.
PS Maggi not sure if this posting should be in this thread ........
Tony Goode holds a National Collection of Crocus, under the Plant Heritage Scheme ( formerly known as NCCPG - http://www.nccpg.com/ (http://www.nccpg.com/) ) - the other day he staged this display at his local Plant Heritage meeting. Thanks for sharing this here Maggi - still snowed under here, figuratively speaking!

Plans afoot for a Crocus/Galanthus event taking shape on Facebook......
Interesting to see this conversation of a joint Crocus/Galanthus event..... puts me in mind of the SRGC/Cyclamen Society weekend in Penrith! Such an event would, of course, be possible to be advertised in the extensive Crocus Section of the SRGC forum - where many of those there[/size]on Facebook originally met, I think!
Seed received a few weeks back are on the move. 13 pots so far out of 18 sown show activity at various stages ..
Thanks to Ruben, Wim and donors .
Cheers Dave
Not just seeds though, Wim? Cormlets and spare corms too?
just cleaned bulbils and pods this afternoon. ;)
Wim,
To what address do we send crocus seed from the UK?
Dave
Finding time during re-potting to work my way through some of the second year seedling pots. Here is the contents of one of the pots - Crocus pallasii from seed collected on Samos by Janis and distributed through the 2015 Crocus Group seed exchange.
I'm given to understand that Crocus Group Seed is being sent out now. Also hearing of members who do not seem to have been informed of this year's list.Hi Maggi,
I'm given to understand that Crocus Group Seed is being sent out now. Also hearing of members who do not seem to have been informed of this year's list. Disappointing when this place has given so much time and support to the Group and surely serves as a recruitment aid!Having been involved in sending out the CG Newsletter in the past, I recall problems with failure of bulk emails which may explain David not receiving his. A proportion of the intended recipients did not receive the mail for reasons that were not always apparent. I think the suggestion of an announcement here is a good idea. The seed-ex is the work of a very small team who do the job in their spare time. I am aware there has been no newsletter this year but the seed exchange continues. I will contact Wim and we will discuss options for better communication, most importantly using the forum more effectively.
Hi Maggi,Some did not get that email either, fermi!
I was concerned when I read your message and wondered why I hadn't received the list. However when I re-read the email from Wim (sent in May) it cleared said that to receive the list you had to request it by August 15. I understand that as a small volunteer group they have to set cut-off dates to be able to do the work effectively.
cheers

Tristan_He is a forumist, so is Torsten , also alpinelover ( Frankie)Thanks Maggi - that's two sorted and one I have PM-ed.
Hi,
I think I should be on the list, but have had nothing of any sort including seedex for over a year. Could I be added back on please? It is alex dot aimee at gmail dot com (obviously replace dot, at with symbols).
Thank you,
Alex
Who can explain the 8 tepals of this crocus, which is a hybrid of two tommasinianus varieties?Mistakes during ontogenesis of flower parts when they were formed during summer rest period. This year many crocuses (actually not "many" but more than usually) had such flowers, some even 12 and more flower parts instead of normal 6. I suppose - induced by high temperature.
Beside the 4 inner and 4 outer tepals this crocus has 4 anthers and a stigma which is quartered.
Helo Tony,Happens quite often - there have been several reports of such flowers in the forum over the years. It is not usually a stable feature.
did you see a spring blooming crocus with 8 petals? See the attached foto. It is a hybrid of tw tomassinianus varieties with 4 inner and 4 outer petals, 4 anthers and a quartered stigma. Do you have any idea what happened with this crocus?
Kindest regards Klaus
The request for Crocus seed donations has been sent out today. If you want to participate in the Crocus Group Seed-exchange (as a donor or non-donor) and you haven't received the mail, you can contact me via PM.
