I think the yellow bulb may be Tritelia ixioides Starlight Ian.  Of course knowing me...

Brian, coincidentally, another Brian, Brian Madden, came up with exactly the same suggestion and yes, you are quite right... I remember getting seed of Tritelia ixioides at any rate.... no idea where from, of course!! Thanks!

Here is a picture of Triteleia ixioides Splendens, which I made in a
field with other bulbous plants, where it was grown some years ago, so
I think it will seed around or small bulbs will show up for many years.

Thanks Brian for the ID of the yellow bulb and Luit for the picture. I remembered as soon as I read your post Brian but could not recall it without a prompt.

It is starting to self seed and has been for a couple of years so there should be more flowers appearing in the next few years.

Anne yes we do get comments when it is in full flower but we also get inundated with so called trades men wanting to tidy up our garden and lock block it to prevent weeds!!!!!!!

Ian,

Truly a magnificent specimen of hemlock! I thought I was the only one that could grow them to that size. We should have a competition. I once worked with a woman who was given a plant of some umbelliferous herb but it died and a hemlock came up in its place. She made it into a salad and fed it to her family but being typical teenagers they had an aversion to green vegetables and so survived. There is a moral in the story somewhere but I am not sure what it is.

It would've sounded plausible to the coroner! That's the trouble with teenagers!

that's the sort of driveway I'd have if I lived in a nice little place like yours! Our current one is lined with every weed known in these parts!
