Title: Linnaea borealis
Post by: Catwheazle on May 24, 2023, 07:59:50 PM
Hello, Linnaea borealis is said to have 3 subspecies: Linnaea borealis L. subsp. borealis, Linnaea borealis subsp. americana and Linnaea borealis subsp. longiflora. Can someone explain me the differences? Unfortunately, I couldn't really find anything online. Do they also differ in culture?
Thank you very much!
Bernd

Catwheazle,

"Linnaea borealis is considered to be a single circumboreal species, with three generally recognized subspecies:

Linnaea borealis subsp. borealis - Europe
Linnaea borealis subsp. americana - North America (formerly classified as the species Linnaea americana)
Linnaea borealis subsp. longiflora - Asia, and western North America (from Alaska to California)"  picture shows it shrubby and white  Wikipedia

"americana is pubescent above downy below dwarf pink blooms
borealis is similar but ciliate only at the base" exerpted from RHS Index of Garden Plants
