Post by: Maggi Young on March 05, 2021, 02:21:53 PM
"Greetings,

We are conducting research on Citizen Science and collecting data from British individuals that have participated in Citizen Science (e.g. birdwatching).
The community that you represent, The Scottish Rock Garden Club , is a target group of our research.

We kindly ask you to forward the following message below to your organisation. Your answers would be a valuable addition to our data.

Below you can find the message that includes further information about the research and a link to the survey.

Kind regards,

Julia Kokkonen

New research project invites hobbyists and volunteers involved in citizen science to share their experiences

Have you ever participated in an observational campaign where you spotted birds, plants or weather phenomena? Or have you assisted researchers by sampling at an excavation site, by collecting water samples, by classifying pictures online or by analysing samples or data? If you said yes, you are the person we are looking for!

We would like to invite you to take part in the CS TRACK citizen science online survey. The purpose of this survey is to formulate a comprehensive picture of the field of citizen science from the perspective of hobbyist/volunteers/citizen scientists, and to explore how they participate and learn in citizen science projects or in other observational campaigns.

If you are not familiar with the term citizen scientist, don’t worry! Many projects are known to use words such as hobbyist, volunteer, participant and observer to describe similar activities. There are numerous ways “to do” citizen science, and this is why we would like to hear about your experiences!

The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete, and all information will remain confidential and anonymous. Please note that you should be 16 years old or older to answer the survey. More information about data protection can be found at the beginning of the survey.

You can begin the survey by clicking here: https://cstrack.eu/

This survey is part of a three-year-long Horizon 2020 research project funded by the European Commission. The CS TRACK project’s goal is to broaden and deepen the understanding of citizen science, to identify and disseminate good practices, and to formulate knowledge-based policy recommendations to maximize the potential benefits of citizen science across Europe and beyond.

The survey is coordinated by the University of Jyväskylä (Finland). If you have any questions or comments about any aspect of the survey or the research project, you can contact us at: cs-track@jyu.fi
