Propagating Androsace primuloides
(1/1)
robg:
I have a trough that now is effectively covered with this plant such that when it comes into flower I keep on getting requests for a cutting.
The problem is that it produces lots of offsets, but I can never get them to root. Can someone give me guidance please.

Maggi Young:
Androsace primuloides spreads by runners, so isolating these and cutting them off to make single rosette cuttings may work in Spring or early summer. Cuttings should be watered from below, in gritty mix with grit protecting the neck and rosette. Seed should also be a possibility.
Palustris:
I have a feeling that I read that the way is to bury the base of the rosette in compost and not to separate it until it has actually rooted. Maybe wrong, but I think that is how I used to do it.
