Reference Books
« on: October 09, 2007, 11:09:54 PM »
Hi Maggi or anyone who else who knows.... what was the title of the book set that I couldn't afford to bid for at the auction last weekend.  I know it was an RHS publication but cannot remember the exact title.

Yes, it was, Tony. The full four piece set of the RHS Dictionary of Gardening, published 1999, so including the (I think 1996) supplement. Hardback, only out of its shrink wrap to be shown  before the auction. The set went for £136.And still a bargain!  A generous donation from the family of the late galanthophile, Betty Hamilton.

I really need that set, also the AGS Encyclopedia too.  Must save up for them.  Together they cost the price of a short holiday......  Have so many books but I generally use only 10% of them.  Must donate the ones I never use to a worthy cause some day.  Thanks Tony & Maggi

Was the supplement published before the main set ?

Not entirely sure of publication date of original set, the paperback set came out in 1999, I think, and the supplement in 1996 see edit in next post :  the set we were given for auction was a new hardback edition from 1999.

Original Dictionary of Gardening came out in 1956, supplement was 1969 (so I made an inversion to write 1996) Original hardback edition of NEW D of G was published 1992.
