not sure if I should start a new thread but I think it's a good idea to keep multiple shots of one family together

great plants for a rockery/scree are the tuberous spring flowering Geraniums. They start into growth in late winter flower from late March to April or Early May and are dormant again in a few weeks.

Geranium malviflorum pink form

Geranium tuberosum

this unknown one from the Czech Rock Garden Club autumn show flowered last month and already has yellowing leaves

G. charlesii flowers in late March or early April

Mark. Antrim (town), Northern Ireland. z8+
the garden is now pink, white and yellow. First Iris are out.

Mark,

The veining really is striking isn't it!!? I'm looking forward to a couple more of the seedlings from you from a couple of years ago flowering for me this coming year. The drought has been hard on a lot of things here the last couple of years, so seedlings struggling to get to flowering size! <sigh>

This is Geranium maderense one of two non hardy relatives of Geranium palmatum. G. palmatum is often sold as maderense and canariense. I have managed to get it through two winters outside! It's monocarpic so will set seed this year and die

another tuberous Geranium is libani x peloponnesiacum

very nice. It's been on my wants list for a long time but I very rarely see it for sale or listed. Could you collect seeds for me? Maybe we can swap cuttings?

Mark,
I have only 1 piece. It flower so richly for the first time. If it set seeds I send some of them for you. With the cuttings is so, that they put down roots very bad. If you would like to buy adult plant, I can give you addresse, where I have bought it last year (in Germany).

I expect that's a fair bet, Carlo! I am amazed to see these geraniums blooming, there are none in the gardens around me, only leaves so far. Mind you, it's perishing cold still.

Hi Margaret,
Our hardy geraniaceae have just begun their bloom. Three cultivars or so in flower at present, the most noticeable--the now ubiquitous 'Rozanne'.
G. maderense is doing nicely in pots from this winter's sowing of seed. I don't suspect I'll see much out of them this year, and they will, of course need protection over the winter, but where there's chlorophyll, there's hope.

The white maderense is lovely...

Carlo says......."where there's chlorophyll, there's hope"
.... now that's a motto I think I'll adopt, to go along with my mantra for planting.... "brown end down, green end up" !!
Unless we get some of the warmer weather the forecasters are promising, I reckon that quite a lot of seedlings will need summer protection at this rate, never mind next winter!
I'm off to put on the possum gloves and socks I got from Bronwyn in New Zealand so I can get comfy in the sitting room!!

Roger shot two at the weekend Maggi, which our dog had treed.Do you want them? Good thick going-into-winter coats!

I'm amazed at the flower colour of Ewelina's Geranium argenteum. I've had it for some time from AGS seed - perhaps 10 years ago. Two plants have never set seed. The foliage is very tight and pure silver and the flowers are palest possible pink. Dare I suggest that the one above may have some hybrid blood in it?

Love the pink hairs Mark, like on a sundew.

included in the collage are soboliferum, phaeum, pratense 'Mrs Kendel Clarke', renardii, rubescens, sylvaticum, asphodeloides, nodosum. palmatum, maculatum 'Album'

A few Geraniums get a mention in the AGS mag today so here are some to look at while you read the article
cinereum 'Ballerina'

plyzowianum

farreri. The author says this is a difficult plant but I assure you it isnt. I have one on the rockery, one in a trough and one in the crevice bed. All are healthy

have you see 'Jolly Bee' and 'Rozanne' for sale? They are both the same plant. 'Rozanne' came first. Here is a comparison

One for the Scots is 'Nora Bremner'

psilostemon 'Bressingham Flair'

One of the largest flowers comes on 'Kirsty'

an almost white G. wallichianum

and one of the darkest wallichianums named after Chris Chadwell

and new this year is 'Sue's (Crug Farm) Sister'

learnt to say Crug as creeg.

Mark,

That last one is stunning. I keep finding little things flowering in the garden that I have missed as well, and once I have seen them it seems so obvious and I wonder how I missed them! LOL

I must admit to wondering about 'Rozanne' and 'Jolly Bee' which we have for sale as well here. Do you know for sure that they are the same thing, or just look very similar? I thought them nearly identical myself, but put it down to the 'Jolly Bee' being brand new and still to settle in.

The 'Ballerina' is very striking, and I didn't know there was a white maderense. Wow!!!! Very pretty.

Wonderful pics. Thanks for posting them for our enjoyment.

Paul, Jolly Bee and Rozanne are identical. I told Meredith's, owner of Rozanne, about Jolly Bee after buying three plants for myself and friends. I took lots of comparison photos for them and then sent them a plant. Rozanne was stolen micropropped and relaunched. Merediths said they couldnt afford DNA testing and a court case.

here are the two side by side

Fascinating Mark! (and not in a good way unfortunately). A real shame that nothing can be done about it, particularly as the propagation has resulted in sale in multiple countries. If it definitely IS stolen then surely the compensation payout would make the DNA testing and court costs worthwhile? There would be have to be soem sort of payout for lost revenue wouldn't there? Not sure how it works in other countries of course.
